Our Local Governing Body

The role of our school governors is to provide strategic direction and policies for the school. The Head Teacher, supported all school staff, is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, with the governing body acting as a “critical friend”.

The governing body meets once a term, with various committees meeting as often as necessary. Minutes of the meetings of the full governing body are available on request from the school office.

The Chair of Governors is Edward Hart.

Governors receive no remuneration for their work, but most find it personally fulfilling.

If you have any questions or would like to raise an issue, please speak to one of the governors, write to them via the School office or use the Contact facility on this website.

We are proud to serve the school and are committed to providing the best environment for the children to learn, have fun and feel safe.

Message from the Chair of Governors

I am honoured to be Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School’s Chair of Governors.

I have been a governor since my children were in the school, starting over 16 years ago. The governing body is made up of some staff, parents and members of the school community. We all have different backgrounds and experience, and together we work to fulfil three main responsibilities;

To provide the strategic direction for the school;

To hold the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school

To over see the financial performance of the school.

The rules of governance of a ‘Church’ school are different to those of a maintained school, and the governors have responsibility for the appointment of the staff and for maintaining the Christian ethos of the school. Children do not, however, have to be Catholic to join our school.

This is a good school, as evidenced by our last Ofsted inspection, and the governors are all passionate about building on this to ensure that every child at the school flourishes within an enjoyable, supportive and safe learning environment. We would like every child to leave our school not only fully equipped for secondary school, but also with a moral compass for the rest of their lives.

If you wish to discuss any matters relating to the governance of the school, then please don’t hesitate to contact me via the school office.
