This week we will be working from the year 2 planning, focusing on some of the characters in Julia Donaldson’s stories. Class 2 are great at identifying interesting words and love learning new vocabulary, so I know you will all do great with these challenges.
If you have any of these stories at home, please share them together. If not there are links on the planning page. You can also access some animations of her stories on BBC iplayer.
I would love to see any work or others challenges you have completed. If you wish you can email me pictures firstname.lastname@example.org 😀🌟🌈

Axel Scheffler has illustrated a digital book for primary school age children, free for anyone to read on screen or print out, about the coronavirus and the measures taken to control it. Published by Nosy Crow, and written by staff within the company, the book has had expert input: Professor Graham Medley of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine acted as a consultant, and the company also had advice from two head teachers and a child psychologist.
The book answers key questions in simple language appropriate for 5 to 9 year olds:
• What is the coronavirus?
• How do you catch the coronavirus?
• What happens if you catch the coronavirus?
• Why are people worried about catching the coronavirus?
• Is there a cure for the coronavirus?
• Why are some places we normally go to closed?
• What can I do to help?
• What’s going to happen next?
Nosy Crow have stated:
We want to make sure that this book is accessible to every child and family and so the book is offered totally free of charge to anyone who wants to read it. However, we have suggested, at the back of the book, that families might make a donation to help our health service if they find the book useful: https://www.nhscharitiestogether.co.uk/.
week ending 27/3/20
Hello Class Two,
I hope you are all staying safe and still smiling!
It has been a very different week than usual, but I hope with the sun shining it has been a happy time spent at home with your families.
Miss Powell has been busy thinking of lots of lovely challenges for you all to do whilst you are spending time safely at home.
After the Easter break I will be uploading our first story of the week with the new challenges!
It would be lovely to hear from you via email or see some of your work. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email.
Look after each other,
Miss Powell 😀
Hope this gives you lots of ideas to keep you busy 😀
Hello, during this difficult and uncertain time I want to just take the opportunity to thank you all for your continued support and enthusiasm in your child’s learning.
If your child is going to be at home over this period, there will be weekly challenges for your child uploaded onto our class page. I will also be reading a story of the week. There will then be a challenge set based on the story.
I have sent home learning packs for each child which have a writing book inside. Your child can complete their story challenges inside this. Any other work can be stuck and recorded in their home learning books which have all been sent home.
Each child has been given a pack of seeds and pot as our topic in science has been plants. The children can care for and maintain their seeds, recording their findings in labelled drawing and sentences.
If anything, I hope this time together allows for extra stories, cuddles and time just spent together. I will miss all of my wonderful class very much.
Please email me if you have any questions or queries.
Hope to see you all soon,
Miss Powell :]

We follow the Jolly Phonics scheme creating actions and rhymes to help us remember our spelling rules. There are lots of videos on Youtube. This is the same for our tricky words.
