We're all going to the zoo ...
Using the IPads, we researched where the animals came from. If the animals came from Africa, we coloured the key and found the animals on the map.
We used directional language to write our instructions. We programmed the Bee-Bots to travel to the correct destination. We reprogrammed the Bee-Bots if they went the wrong way.
We went on an African safari with Class 1. We made a map of our journey. We made sandwiches for a snack. We made binoculars to spot the animals with. We had to look for the animals and record with station they were. We ended the day eating our sandwiches around the camp fire.
After reading Handa's surprise, we tasted the fruit she took to Akeyo. We tried mango, avocado, passion fruit and pineapple. Our favourite was the ripe red mango, just like the elephant! Our least favourite was the creamy green avocado.
We read the story Handa's Hen and discussed the village she lived in. We looked at the clothes she wore too. We played a game where we compared our life in Carnforth with life in and African village. We had a go at a traditional African dance. We made African jewellery in bright colours with traditional patterns. We designed and create a rain stick.
This week we went on an African safari with Class 1. We listened to the story Giraffes can't dance. We reaseached animal facts to make our own trump cards. We made animal masks and foot prints. We enjoy dancing as different African animals. During PE we had to find the different animals hidden across the field. In music we sang an African song.
We identified trees by their leaves. We looked for evergreen and deciduous trees.
This week we have explored capacity. We estimated how much it would take to fill different containers. We ordered containers based on how much they could hold. We looked at reading scales. We investigated if containers could hold more or less than a litre. We also measured amounts of water and then halved them.
We worked with a partner to complete our exercises. Some of them were tricky.
We told the story of when Jesus went back to be with his Father in heaven. The disciples were sad to see their friend go. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to be their friend and stay with them forever.
We have been practicing our throwing and jumping skills. We enjoyed finding out how far we had jumped.
Looking after God's world
We have been thinking of ways to care for God's world. We made posters to remind people to save energy by turning off lights and plugs when not in use. We thought about reusing materials and sorted the rubbish in to groups for reyclying. We talked about choosing to walk instead of using the car and conducted a survey on how we travel to school. Class 2 have been looking after the school grounds. We we did some weeding and tidied the plant beds ready to plant new flowers.
We made a model of a plant and labelled the different parts.
We learnt that when we exercise the heart pumps blood around the body to the muscles, this make us hot. We tried different exercise to keep our bodies healthy. We learnt why it is important to stretch our muscles after exercise.
We looked at hot and cold climates across the world. We talked about different animals and if they live in a hot place or a cold place before we placed them on the map.
We looked at the shape, size and colour of different leaves to identify plants round the school grounds. We recorded what we found in a tally chart. We counted how many we found to identify the most common plant.
Our topic this term is Journeys. We have been using the globes to find the 5 oceans. We also used the maps to name the 7 continents of the world.
This week we have been busy collecting and sorting data. We have used Carrol diagrams, tally charts and Venn diagrams.
We really enjoyed learning about how to keep our bodies healthy as we exercised with Debbie.
We haven found out that plants need light, water and soil to grow properly.
Now are tadpoles have grown into froglets, it is time to release them back to the pond we collected the frogspawn from.
Class 2 would like to wish you all a Happy Easter. We had lots of fun this week making Easter biscuits, chicks and bunny baskets.
Year 6 organised an egg hunt. We had to collect the different pictures hidden inside the eggs. We had to work together as a team. The team with the most pictures won a special prize.
This week are tadpoles have turned into froglets. They now have four legs and come out of the water to sit on the rock. We are watching carefully to see their tails get shorter.
We have been thinking about the journey Jesus made on Good Friday. We walked around the school grounds to find each station. We thought about how Jesus felt at each station and although he was suffering greatly, he still had time to think of others. We took time to reflect on how Jesus' mother Mary and his disciples must have felt to see Jesus in pain.
What do plants need to grow?
We are investigating what plants need to grow. We think they need light, water and soil. We planted one seed without soil, one we won't water and the last one we have left in a dark place.
We have been learning about Holy Week and Easter with Class 1. We talked about Palm Sunday and the last meal Jesus shared with his friends on Maunday Thursday. We tasted Hot Cross buns and learnt in the past they only ate them on Good Friday. We looked at the stations of the cross through symbols. We made Easter nest and Easter cards to celebrate when Jesus rose again on Easter Sunday.
This week we noticed that our tadpole have started to grow back legs. We painted pictures of frogs and wrote about their life cycle.
We worked with Class 1 to learn about the festival of light, Diwali. We made diva lamps, Indian sweets and rangoli patterns.
It was our assembly this week. We talked about saying sorry when we upset our friends and how God forgives us when we say sorry.
Carole, from CAFOD, came to talk to us today. We thought about ways we can care for God's world. We made a promise of one thing we will try to do to show God we are looking after his world.
As part of our investigations in science, we went looking for signs of spring. We found buds and blossom on the trees. We also found daffodils.
RE week - make the stranger welcome
This week we have been thinking about ways to welcome people. We did a sponsored walk to think about the long journey refugees make. We thought about how we would feel to leave friends and family behind and what few items we would pack to take with us.
To help us learn how to look after the tadpoles, we read information books about frogs. We found out what frogs like to eat and where they live. We also looked at the life cycle of frogs.
We now have tadpoles. We enjoy watching them wiggle their tails as they swim.
We celebrated St Patrick's day by learning Irish dancing. We tasted Irish stew and soda bread. We also made shamrock people.
We have new friends in class this week. We have some frogspawn to look after as we learn about their life cycle.
With Class 2 we learnt about how people celebrate Shrove Tuesday around the world. We looked at Mardi Gras. We tasted food eaten in New Orleans and located it on the map. We made Mardi Gras beads in green, purple and gold.
This week it was our assembly. We explained what treasure is and how we look after our special things. We made treasure boxes and drew our treasures inside. We know that we are God'd treasure and we told the story of creation.
We celebrated Shrove Tuesday by making pancakes and having a pancake race. We also made our Lenten promises.
We have been reading the Traditional tale, The Great Chapatti Chase. Today we made chapattis. Mrs Saunders taught us how to roll them out so the stayed round. They tasted yummy!
This week we investigated mass. We compared light and heavy objects and ordered our items by weight. We measure the mass of different items in grams and kilograms.
The fire service came to talk to us about fire safety. We learnt to Stop, Drop and Roll if you were to catch fire. We talked about the important job a fire alarm does, to works just like a big nose. We know to get down low to get below the smoke and gases. We met Frances the firefly who taught us not to play with matched. We talked about a Fire Plan, what to do in order to escape the fire safely.
We enjoyed working with Class 2 to learn about the festival of Yom Kippur. We compared Judaism with Christianity and tasted apples dipped in honey. We thought about what we will do during Lent to bring us closer to God and wrote our Lenten promise.
We're going on a snake hunt!
We have been reading the story, We are going on a Bear Hunt. We packed a bag and dressed up ready to go on our own hunt but we didn't find a bear! We found a snake!
We have been looking at different ways to travel. We went over, under and through the different equipment.
We are looking for a bear, have you seen one?
Carol, from CAFOD, came to talk to Class 1 & 2 about refugees. We talked about journeys we take. We discussed the special journey Mary and Joseph took to Bethlehem and how they had to leave before King Herod found them. We talked about having a special place where we all feel safe and drew a picture for CAFOD to send to a child who has been made to leave their home.
We have been exploring by travelling up and down the PE equipment.
Class 2 retold the story of the Chinese Zodiac. We put the animals in the order that they won the race. We made lucky red dragons and danced with them.
Shapes are all around us!
We have been learning about shapes this week. We had a look for the different shapes we could find around our school.
We looked for shapes around our school. We identified what 3D shape the objects were. We also talked about the 2D shapes on the objects faces.
Father Christmas came today
What's Going on Behind the Stable Door?
We all really enjoyed telling everyone the story of the first Christmas.
As part of our Great Fire of London topic we had a visit from an old fire engine. We even got to wear the helmet and sit in the driver's seat.
Our Topic this term has been Castles and Dragons. We went to look round Lancaster Castle and learnt about how it has changed over the years. We learnt why people built castles and about the different features that help defend the castle. We looked round the court and the jail cells and learnt how they treated prisoners. The brave pupils and teachers of class 2 were locked in a prison cell, it was very dark!
We tested materials to see if could change their shape. We tried to squash, bend, twist or stretch the different materials.
We investigated which objects float and which sink. We made predictions before we tested each object.
Class 1 came to show us their story of the Big Bad Cat. They were very good. We enjoyed all of the actions that went with the story.
Class 2 went on an adventure to find the creature that left foot prints in their classroom. We went through the deep dark forest and over the stepping stones. We could smell the burning fire and hear the creature snoring. We found a dragon sleeping in its cave.

Class 2 found footprints in their classroom. We discussed what sort of creature might have made them. Then we wrote a description about the creature.
We felt the materials with our feet and thought of words to describe them.
